Training Division

Training and development in any organization requires a training strategy to achieve success, and a method to make it happen (or implementation). The primary mission of the Lake Villa Fire Protection District’s Training Department is to provide on-going training, education and certification to our personnel. We are responsible for ensuring all personnel are adequately trained to serve the District’s residents and emergencies. The goal of the Training Division is to have all our Firefighters master the basics of firefighting and emergency services and deliver a program our residents expect and deserve.

In addition to weekly training; additional classes and seminars are available through colleges, organizations, other departments and specialized training facilities. LVFPD personnel regularly participate in training to be able to provide the best service possible and safely mitigate any emergency in our community. Lake Villa continues to meet future needs through Training, Education, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s certification process.

The Training Director maintains all training and certification records for our personnel. These records make sure we meet all requirements specified by regulatory and standards agencies like the Office of the State Fire Marshall, National Fire Protection Association, Insurance Services Organization, Illinois Department of Public Health, and the EMS System. The Lake Villa Fire Protection District’s Training Department is committed to staying on top of the latest firefighting and emergency response techniques and information!

Steps of the Training Process:

  • Create a training action plan to make sure that you have the necessary systems in place, that you can access resources, other sources deemed appropriate or design training and position it in time for use.
  • Deliver the training by any number of appropriate methods determined by value and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor the training value as well as employee need and satisfaction.
  • Evaluate the training by assessment and sustainability overtime.
  • Revise training and/or training plan if needed, with a plan for making immediate changes to the training itself.

If you have any questions with regards to our training, please call (847)356-2534 or email dnellessen@lakevillafpd.com.
